Burnt Ends Tiki Bar - St Petersburg

Burnt Ends Tiki Bar in St Petersburg has a great selection of drinks - with tiki mugs available for sale.   I visited on a Monday in late August just as they opened at 3pm.  The bar is located on the second floor above the Dr. BBQ restaurant.  You can't miss the large Maoi statue of the owner as you drive in.  There is limited parking on property but across the street you can park in the sports arena parking, and then get you parking stub validated at the bar for free.

The bar is an outside venue filled with nice touches of classic tiki bar vibes.  From the thatched roof, the colorful glass buoys and some interesting glowing lava flow skulls behind the bar, you are instantly transported to a mid century vibe of relaxation and tropical fun.   For sitting there is a large bar with stools or for a more comfortable seat try the cushioned chairs on the deck which give some views of the surrounding area.

Drinks are the main attraction and Burnt Ends are top notch!  Our bartender, Mick, was phenomenal.  He took the time to go over the menu with us, the history of the bar and gave us a great look at all of the tiki mugs we could purchase.  Here is the drink menu:

We tried the Mai Tai and the Planter's Punch. Our bartender Mick knows his stuff, the Mai Tai was a very well executed classic.  It was the perfect blend of rums and house made orgeat. If you are a classic Mai Tai enthusiast I would highly recommend this drink!

Our other drink we tried was the Planter's Punch.  This is a great drink for those who prefer a more fruity taste to their libation than some of the stronger options on the menu.  A refreshing mix of fruit juices with a nice rum blend that is not too strong but still enjoyable. If you have a designated driver in your group, have no fear, there were some fun options that the bar tender can mix up just for you.  Mine included a blend of fruit juices with nutmeg cinnamon and mint garnish.  Excellent and refreshing!

The bar runs specials and on the day we visited, if you buy a mug, you get the drink for free! They have a great selection of mugs from very well known artists such as Tiki Farm and Eekum Bookum.  Prices ranged from $30 to about $120 for specialty mugs.  My husband and I opted for two Tiki farm mugs for our collection that were just stunning.  We went with the Maori and the Hawaiian. Both mugs have a matte finish with lots of detail and are great additions for just $30 a piece.

The bar bites were also a hit!  We tried the roasted pineapple and the spring rolls.  The roasted pineapple was the standout of the two we tried.  Roasted with a smoky flavor and topped with thin caramel sauce made this a unique take on a tiki classic sweet dessert.  The spring rolls we had were bite size rolls that came with a sweet Pineapple Habanero Sauce that had a nice kick, but not too strong.

I highly recommend checking out Burnt Ends Tiki Bar on your next visit to the Tampa/St.Petersburg area.  There are several hotels close by so you can extend your stay and have a short walk or lyft drive back to your room.
